Asia Pacific

Hong Kong - Victoria Harbour Skyline

"While traveling thru all those different countries and continents - far away from your familiar neighbourhood you rely on every day - this is the time when you'll experience something special. It'll blow and open your minds, give you more awareness and let you drop some prejudice against foreign cultures you might have had before."

Street Life of Hong Kong

It was in May last year when I initially got in touch with the asian continent. Well, to be exact not with any place but Hong Kong. Formerly an empire ruled over by its own emperor later it became a colony ruled by the foreign emperor under the Crown of Britain. Since China took back control in 1997 it remains a very vivid metropolitan and important financial business center. And Hong Kong also carries out the "SAR" (Special Administrative Region) with its name. Every day many Airlines from all over the world heading to the Hong Kong International Airport (HKG, IATA Code) revealed in 1998. I took a one stop flight starting in Frankfurt (FRA) with one transit in Dubai (DXB) and final destination Hong Kong (HKG). 17 hours later I finally dropped of at Lantau Island hosting Hong Kong's International Airport. There was nothing to complain about. The airport's architecture looks friendly, bright with plenty of glasses and windows. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well as signs telling you the direction where you should go to clear customs, pick up your baggage or how to get off the Airport. Only the large display at the baggage claim area, showing where to pick up your stuff, was a bit overloaded and therefore confusing me a bit. Also worth to mention is the free WiFi access inside the Airport that shortens your stay and waiting time - and "free" really means it's free of any charge.

Let's start with some pictures showing the first visible signs of the Asian culture. It's really hard to miss that.
