2000 Miles - A California Round Trip (a CA 94112 SPECIAL)

Melting pot L.A.

Monday, September 4th 2006: it was the sonorous sound of the La Hacienda's A/C preventing me from falling into a deep and good night sleep I'd like to have.Maybe it was the fact that the room was in the "Westtower" - you should know that this section let you feel back to the 90s (or even 80s?) a little bit. Not bad - not best. Anyway, now it's 9.30 am and I have a date with Kristin. Who is she? Kristin is an intern working for Lufthansa Cargo Los Angeles. Means she's doing almost the same like I do for San Francisco. And right now she and two friends of her and another intern (his name is Conrad) are waiting at Starbucks right across the street - having breakfast, yeah. Fortuitous the two girls are in town this week so we can spend some time together. The plan today is a sightseeing tour called "L.A. in just one day" and Kristin will guide us all day long. So lets start...

No doubt - it is almost impossible to see everything of Los Angeles on one day. But we have Kristin and Kristin does a great job by showing us all important sights and places of L.A.: the Hollywood Boulevard, Bel Air, the U.C.L.A., Hermosa Beach... Every location can be reached by car and due to Kristin's local knowledge we reduced the amount of detours to almost none. Maybe someone ask me: how did you feel comfortable having 5 persons total in the car? The answer is "we did fine". Everybody has enough space around them. The back seats of the Chevrolet Malibu V6 (a Midsize Car) are plenty of space for 3 adults with no restrictions in comfort.

"Monday, 2nd day: Experience the beauty of L.A. - in just one day

The follow pictures have been created at the beginning of this sightseeing tour thru Los Angeles. Not only good for religious people this modern church is also an attraction for everybody. Even for a report on local cable news.

And the show goes on with some more impressions of this city. For instance dark streets remember you being in New York. But the difference is that fortunately those streets in L.A. getting much more light as streets in New York. And I'm honest when I say that the Disney Concert Hall did impress me very much since I like those modern kinda architecture.

On early afternoon we reached one of the most famous locations of Los Angeles: you'll see it right away that the Hollywood Blvd is focused on the tourists visiting the city at the Pacific. You'll find a hole bunch of weird characters, ctors, persons who want you taking a photo. And you can explore a place where the Oscar Nominations took place in the past.

The Hills, Los Angeles is surrounded by, are only short ride away. One of the well known locations is Bel Air with its magnificent and overwhelming view on Los Angeles. And you'll also see how rugged, splitted and spreaded L.A. is in reality. Most of the people of Bel Air are famous, living an exclusive way of life - and they really don't care how much money they have to spend for. But it's important for them that no "alien" could look inside their real estate. So they protect their privacy by high fences, hedges and large doors to keep those people out - just to be among themselves.

The U.C.L.A. looked like abandoned because on Labor Day most of the students want to spend their time on other places but not at the University. I'm surprised about all of these old-fashioned buildings. Ther owners are really taking care of it because they are in a really good condition, symbolizing how the old time meets the modern.s

I seems there is no better way than hang out on beach and enjoy the rays of the evening sun letting the day fade out very slightly. And by the way you'll still see enough like that character pretending to be a reincarnation of Jimmy Hendrix. Playing his guitar so aweful gives you any reason to get away from that place immediately.
Ohh - and by the way:if you have in mind to buy and California License Plate for memories you need a big portion of luck. The availability of such plates is worse: once they come out to dealers the demand is that high that they become sold out immediately.
